As our 25th Anniversary Season reaches its close we revisit a work we commissioned in 1988, Ned Rorem’s Bright Music (for flute, strings, and piano), and we offer a piano concerto by Mozart. A full concerto on a chamber music program? Well, yes this is one of several the composer said might be conveyed perfectly well by a piano with string quartet. One of music’s transcendent masterworks, Schubert’s Cello Quintet, brings this anniversary celebration to a glorious conclusion.
