Peter Wiley, cello

Cellist Peter Wiley, a native of Utica, New York, attended the Curtis Institute at just 13 years of age, under the tutelage of David Soyer. He continued his impressive youthful accomplishments with his appointment as principal cellist of the Cincinnati Symphony at age 20, after one year in the Pittsburgh Symphony. He has been awarded an Avery Fisher Career Grant and was nominated with the Beaux Arts Trio for a Grammy Award in 1998. As a member of the Beaux Arts Trio, Mr. Wiley performed over 1,000 concerts, including appearances with many of the world’s greatest orchestras. He joined the legendary Guarneri Quartet upon Mr. Soyer’s retirement in 2001, performing until the quartet’s final concert last season. He continues his association with the Marlboro Music Festival, dating from 1971. He has also been a faculty artist at Caramoor’s “Rising Stars” program, and has taught at the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, the Mannes College of Music and the Manhattan School of Music. Mr. Wiley is on the faculty of the Bard Conservatory and the Curtis Institute of Music.
