Juliette Kang, violin
Juliette Kang, a native of Edmonton, Canada, joined The Philadelphia Orchestra as associate concertmaster in 2005. Previously she was assistant concertmaster of the Boston Symphony, a member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and principal second violin with the Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra. She was gold medalist in the 1994 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, grand prize winner at the 1992 Menuhin Violin Competition, and a winner of the 1989 Young Concert Artists Audition. An accomplished recitalist, Ms. Kang’s invitations include New York’s Carnegie Hall, Frick Collection, Rockefeller University and 92nd Street Y; Paris’ Théâtre Châtelet, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, Boston’s Gardner Museum, Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center, Toronto’s “Onstage at the Glenn Gould” series, as well as in Seoul, Taipei, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. In addition she has enlivened Canada’s Festival International de Lanaudiere and Festival International d’Eté; America’s Spoleto, Bravo! Vail Valley, Ventura, Moab and Marlboro festivals; and France’s Colmar Festival. She holds a master’s degree from Juilliard, where she studied with Dorothy DeLay and Robert Mann. Ms. Kang began violin studies at age four and at 10 entered the Curtis Institute as a student of Jascha Brodsky. Her 1996 Carnegie Hall recital was recorded for the Samsung/Nices label; she has also recorded on the CBC label.
