Ayano Kataoka, percussion

Marimbist-percussionist Ayano Kataoka is known for her artistic versatility, regularly performing music of diverse genres and mediums. She is the first percussionist to be chosen for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society Two residency program. She has appeared with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble at Carnegie Hall, Emanuel Ax at Alice Tully Hall, Midori at Rose Theater, and Jaime Laredo at the 92nd Street Y. An avid musician, Ms. Kataoka has performed and given master classes at the Eastman School of Music, the Oberlin Conservatory, University of California San Diego, New York University, SUNY Stony Brook, the University of British Columbia, among others. Beyond her classical music activities, she participated in the Yale Repertory Theatre production of All’s Well that Ends Well as an on-stage performer, playing music and acting. She received her bachelor’s of music from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, her master’s degree from the Peabody Conservatory, and her artist diploma from the Yale University School of Music where she studied with Robert van Sice, the world-renowned marimba virtuoso.
